About Cortavia

Cortavia was established in Kuala Lumpur to address a specific gap: organisations with remote-sensing data and no clear path to turning it into usable spatial layers. The founders spent several years inside GIS consulting teams before deciding that what clients needed most was not another software licence, but a reliable preparation and extraction service with a paper trail.

Since opening at Menara Prestige in early 2023, the team has processed tile sets covering oil palm estates in Kelantan, road-network extractions for a Selangor utility operator, and capability programmes for planning departments in the Klang Valley. The work is methodical. Every deliverable arrives with the schema document, accuracy metrics and a handover session — because a layer your team cannot verify is of limited value.

Cortavia does not build proprietary platforms. The outputs land in standard GIS formats — GeoPackage, Shapefile, GeoJSON — so they slot into whatever environment the client already uses.

Every project begins with a schema document. Decisions about edge cases are recorded, not left in someone's head.

Independent agreement checks

A second reviewer assesses inter-annotator agreement on every tile set. The metric is included in the deliverable, not tucked away.

Labelling runs four weeks; extraction runs eight. Timelines are set at kick-off and tracked weekly, not left vague.

Neutral format outputs

Deliverables land in standard GIS formats. No proprietary lock-in, no requirement to buy additional software from Cortavia.

Handover sessions and refresh procedures are part of every scope. The goal is a client team that can run subsequent batches independently.

Built for Malaysian landscapes

Tropical imagery — with the cloud cover, vegetation density and seasonal variation that comes with it — requires labelling standards developed specifically for this region. Cortavia's annotators have worked on oil palm, rubber and mixed-jungle tile sets in Kelantan, Pahang and Sarawak, so the edge-case decisions in the schema reflect real conditions rather than temperate-climate assumptions.

Asset records at scale

Utility operators and planning departments accumulate large areas that need regular spatial updates. Manual digitising does not scale. The map feature extraction service runs a trained model across a defined study area, applies topology cleaning, and delivers the results with confidence attributes and an accuracy report — giving your team something it can accept or flag by feature, rather than treat as a black box.

The spatial analytics capability programme does not end at delivery. Ten training sessions, code review of team-built workflows and six months of mentoring calls are written into the scope. How Cortavia approaches the work

Reference over spectacle

Deliverables are designed to be checked, not admired. Confidence attributes, accuracy metrics and schema documents are included so the client can interrogate the output rather than accept it on trust.

Scope discipline

Every engagement has a written scope, fixed timeline and defined deliverables before work starts. Changes are negotiated in writing. This protects the client's budget as much as it protects the project schedule.

Knowledge stays with the client

Handover is built into every scope. The aim is a client organisation that can rerun analyses and extend labelled datasets without returning to Cortavia for each subsequent batch.

Sheet 09 — Workflow

How a project runs

Four stages, the same sequence for every engagement. No surprises mid-project.

Scoping call

We review your data, study area and intended use. You receive a written scope, timeline and price before any work begins. Typically takes three to five business days.

02

Schema and sample review

A draft labelling standard or extraction specification is shared for your sign-off. Edge cases are resolved in writing. A sample output is reviewed before full production starts.

Production with weekly updates

Work proceeds against the agreed schedule. You receive a short written status each week. Any issues affecting the timeline are flagged immediately, not at delivery.

04

Delivery and handover

Final layers and documentation are delivered in your preferred format. A handover session covers the schema, accuracy metrics and refresh procedure so the next batch can be managed internally.

Frequently asked

What types of imagery do you work with?
We process aerial photography, drone captures, SPOT, Pleiades and PlanetScope imagery. Cloud cover is managed through compositing where source allows. All imagery is assessed during scoping; we confirm suitability before quoting.
Do you supply the imagery, or do I provide it?
Both arrangements work. If you have existing imagery, we accept it. If sourcing is required, the Map Feature Extraction scope includes imagery coordination — we manage the order and licensing on your behalf and pass the cost through at no mark-up.
What formats will I receive the final layers in?
Standard outputs are GeoPackage, Shapefile and GeoJSON. GeoTIFF rasters and CSV with coordinates are available on request. The coordinate reference system is agreed during scoping — we default to WGS 84 / GDM 2000 unless your workflow requires otherwise.
How large an area can the extraction service cover?
There is no fixed upper limit. The eight-week timeline applies to a study area of up to roughly 5,000 km². Larger areas are scoped individually; we have processed concession areas in excess of 10,000 km² by running extraction in defined phases.
Is the capability programme delivered on-site in Kuala Lumpur?
The programme is primarily remote — training sessions are held online, code review is asynchronous, and mentoring calls are scheduled at times that work for your team. On-site visits to your office in Peninsular Malaysia can be arranged for the capability assessment and for one or two of the training sessions if your team prefers.
How is personal data handled during a project?
Spatial project data (imagery, vector files) is processed on secured infrastructure and retained only for the duration of the project plus a short archival period agreed in the scope. We do not use client spatial data to train shared models. Contact and enquiry data is handled under our Privacy Notice.
